The bottom line up front, I am no academic, no strategist, I also have no desire to be an influencer, or at least to be an influencer as they are generally understood to be, constantly obsessed with content creation and self-promotion. So who am I, and what am I trying to accomplish with this blog? Well, to the point, I am a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army (post KD Infantry First Sergeant for those that care), and the point of this blog is multifaceted. One goal is that this blog serves as a means for me to share, or at the very least record observations and lessons learned during my time in the service. My hope is that I can pass on the lessons I have learned to the next generation of young Soldiers and warriors. Currently, I’m serving as a ROTC military science instructor at a university in North Carolina, and just like how I wanted my Soldiers on the line to succeed, I want my Cadets to succeed. This blog is just another means in which to help my Cadets while also, God willing, reach and helping a larger audience as well.
Why should anyone read what I’m writing? That is a good question. As mentioned above I’m a senior Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) with some time and experience under my belt. I have been to both Iraq and Afghanistan. But at the end of the day that doesn’t mean what I say is worth listening to. You will just have to check out the blog for yourself and make your own judgement. At the end of the day, I’m trying to make others and myself better through this process. To make us better Soldiers, better leaders, better men, and better citizens. Iron sharpens iron. I look forward to seeing where this blog takes me, and I hope you find it educational, motivational, and even entertaining. – MSG James Bavry.
